COMMUNITY COUNCIL

The regular monthly meeting of the Big Pond Community Council was held Wed. June 4 at 7:30 p.m. Dave MacKillop gave a financial report and  indicated that we have a grant for one worker Duration is for 12 weeks at $6.00 per hour. Executive will meet this week to select a worker.

Ron McCarron stated that Stan MacLean is looking into prices on a sign for the hall. John MacLeod discussed the meeting held at the East Bay Fire Hall on May 28 regarding the reconstruction of the highway from East Bay to Eskasoni and East Bay to St. Peters.  There will be a meeting of the steering committee on June 9.

On the matter of extra lighting around our building, the response from David McDow of Public Works is that we will not be able to get them. Paul MacLellan will check with Hughie MacPherson to get permission to destroy the rink shack.

Dave MacKillop spoke on the Father MacGregor Scholarship Fund. There is not enough interest earned to cover scholarships awarded each year. It was decided to leave it as is.

Concert Report Melvin White: We will have the Irish Descendants in place for Friday night, along with Aselin Debison. The Accents will be performing Friday July 18 at the Fire Hall.

Some discussion took place on the 1st year anniversary of the opening of the new Fire Hall/ Community Centre. Sharise gave the dates for the high school proms; June 20- 27 Anyone interested in patrolling the beach area on those evenings can call her.
